The brief, imagined
A subscription business whose team opened their reporting tool once a month and closed it again, because answering "are we all right?" took four clicks and a spreadsheet.
The direction
One screen that answers one question, with the rest of the detail a deliberate step away. The number that matters is typographic rather than graphical - set large enough to read across a room - and the chart underneath it exists to show the shape of the month, not to be studied.
Purple, because everything in this category is blue, and a quiet grid because a dashboard is furniture: it should be reassuring to look at every day rather than impressive once.
What it would be built with
A server-rendered page and a small amount of JavaScript, deliberately: a screen that answers a question in a second does not need a front-end framework, and the data it reads is one query.
