The brief
Hansa Engineering has been looking after Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Audi cars in Cheltenham for twenty-five years, most of it on recommendation. The website's job is small and specific: be the answer when somebody searches for a specialist, say plainly what the workshop does, and put the telephone number where a person can find it.
What it does
Five pages: the front door, and four more reachable from the panels under the photograph on it.
- Services. Servicing, repairs, an M.O.T. by arrangement, diagnostics, mechanical restoration, and engine and transmission rebuilds - one list, complete, with no menu to work through first.
- Classics. Restoration and rebuild work on older cars - the part of the business that earns the reputation.
- About. Twenty-five years, one workshop, and personal service rather than a chain's queue.
- Contact. The address in Battledown, the workshop's own number, and a form for anybody who would rather type than call.

The direction
The marques are the design. A specialist's credibility is three names above the door, so the home page sets Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Audi at headline size over a photograph of the kind of car that arrives in the workshop, and lets the navigation do the rest. The green comes from the Hansa mark and carries through the four panels and the contact blocks; the type is a bookish serif that reads as established rather than as new.
Nothing on the site asks to be admired. A customer looking for somebody to look after a 2005 C-Class wants a list, an address and a telephone number, and the design's real job is to make those three things easy to find on a site a small workshop can afford to keep.
What it is
A static site - five pages of HTML served from S3 behind CloudFront - with no database, no login and no server-side application to keep running, which suits a business whose website changes a handful of times a year.
